Every mix I try to incorporate a couple of eclectic pieces here and there to hopefully bring in people who don't normally listen to anything electronic dance music related. The goal is for someone who's never heard of me or listened to a electronic dance music mix to be able to turn the CD on and immedietaly feel comfortable by hearing a band or artist they are familiar with. On top of the goal is a personal goal to challenge myself to pick non electronic songs that can hopefully make sense within the context of the mix and work as a whole.

With that in mind I started the mix off with a group who I've used in a previous mix and I'm sure I'll continue too because their music is incredible. Bloc Party kicks it off fast and hard with Always New Depths. A beautiful piece that has that great dreamy and airy guitar sounds I love the group for. Following is the Amnesia Afterhours Reprise of Orange Glow by Glenn Morrison. I felt it had a nice dreamy sound to it as well that I felt would keep in spirit of the first track while slowly building upon some dance elements with it's percussion.

Pig & Dan's Cubes is easily one of my favorite songs of the moment. In a live enviroment this would be ideal as a peak song because of its perfect balance of melody and driving bassline/percussion. It's pure energy and although a great track to play midset I think it works better as an opener in this mix because it instantly gets you moving without hesitation.

Continuing the energy driven Cubes is David West and Ida Engberg's Supercluster with a remix treatment from David West himself. David West always adds this amazing big room sound to his tracks that no one else has. After looking up Ida Engberg though I must say I might be in love.

The EDX remix of Kaskades Angel On My Shoulder wasn't in the original version of this mix. It was a very late addition and I threw it in after hearing a friend play it out at a recent party. For memories sake I had to put it in. Following this is an amazing remix of Guy J's Lamur by Henry Saiz. Henry, who also has a fantastic take on Radioheads Reckoner, really adds a driving force to this song and it builds so well until it completely takes off. So many songs these days have been following that "minimal" route where the melody and breakdown all get sucked away but this doesn't and it's absolutely beautiful and refreshing. A track I'll be using live every chance I get.

I was first introduced to Moonbeam back when Sasha played What Dreams May Come and I've been following their work since. Although their work has been heavily covered with vocals lately I really enjoyed About You in particular. I fought with myself for awhile as to whether I should use the english vocal or russian vocal mix but I felt it made more sense this time around to use the english vocals. I will definitely be using the russian vocal mix at some point though theirs something much more haunting and dreamy about the russian vocal that I love.

Dinka is an alias of Christian Hirt who also does work under Chris Reece, Passenger and Basic Dawn. An artists who's been around for quite some time under different names has a knack for creating some very beautiful and dream like tracks under his Dinka alias. It's along the lines of Jaytech and Mat Zo. It's a great more uplifting and bassline driven progressive sound. This remix of Tokyo Dawn by Schodt is stunning. The piano is just lush and gorgeous and really started to take things in the right direction for the next song.

Mat Zo is a bit of hit and miss for me which is suprising. I love the sound he goes for but I think on occasion their a bit overdone but whenever he does get it right I love it. I always thought Driving To Heaven just needed a proper remix to be fully fleshed out and Mat really takes this track and does a number. The name in my opinion is completely literal because thats the feeling you get when hearing it. I've only had once chance to throw this in a live set and the reaction was just astounding. Enjoy.

Since this mix started out so energetic I didn't want to just end it right away with just a small outro. The last three songs really do speak for themselves. All very euphoric and beautiful in their own right. All of them including the other vocal tunes follow a similar theme of love, the happiness that comes with it and ultimately loss. Enjoy.
